Tire Flower Planters

One of my goals for the warmer days of spring and summer is to really focus some attention on the exterior of my home. I have done very little in terms of landscaping in the years since we bought our house and have been on the lookout for creative ideas. I was reminded by Rochelle from Studio G that tires are great for upcycling into planters.

You can actually cut the tires to turn them inside out and then use any leftover rims to make a little pedestal base. I love how these tires are painted too so they don’t look like you just stuck your flowers outside in an old tire.

  1. This is a great way to keep these old tires out of landfills. Love how cute it looks painted yellow.

  2. OMG! You just brought me back to my childhood!!! My dad (who was an auto mechanic) made a pair of these (painted white) for my mom and they adorned each side of the walkway to our front door. They were there forever! I’m guessing he probably made them in the early ’70s. I had forgotten all about them! Thanks for that short trip down memory lane. :-)

My dad made two of these for my mom in the 70’s. My job was to paint them. They ended up with multicolored polka dots all over them. He loved me so much he left them that way. They were still there when we moved several years later!

My hubby and I made some of these years ago. I loved them, but, we had one heck of a time getting the tires turned inside out! It wasn’t nearly as easy as I thought it would be.
